Support a porter

2 female Porter on Kilimanjaro carrying heavy loads on their heads

Why support a porter?

We believe that every step taken on Mount Kilimanjaro should lift someone higher — not just the climbers, but the incredible women porters who make each journey possible.

Women working as porters on Kilimanjaro face immense challenges — from harsh conditions and limited opportunities to deep-rooted gender barriers. Yet, they carry more than just your gear up the mountain — they carry their own dreams, determination, and hope for a better future.

Many porters dream of improving their living conditions by learning English and attending a mountain guide training - especially as the grow older. However, these opportunities are out of their reach due to financial barriers and family obligations - school fees and livelihood costs during studies need to be covered.

Help porter become a guide

You can make a direct, personal impact by sponsoring a specific porter — hear her story, follow her progress, and see the difference your support makes.

Why your contribution makes

a real difference

Your donation can give our porters the chance to

- attend English classes (costs: $130 per month), usually 3 months are necessary as a prerequisite to

- attend training and achieve a Certificate as mountain guide at Mweka Wildlife College CAWM (costs: $400)

Your support will be used to pay tuition fees and costs of living: transport, food and accommodation as most of our porters will have to leave their home village at the slopes of Kilimanjaro for the studies in town.

Together every steps counts

We are deepy grateful for every donation.

No amount is too small - each contribution helps!

Testimonials

White and black woman hugging

" We climbed Kilimanjaro in August 2025 in a joined group of six women. Tinni was one of our porters, so strong and funny, she always made us laugh although we did not have a language in common.

After the climb all six of us decided to support her on her journey to learn English, go to college and become a mountain guide one day"

- Chloe & Maria

I climbed Kilimanjaro in October 2025 with friends. After I came back home I decided to raise money for these amazing women porters. From what people donated now 3 porters, Pendo, Maggie and Neema are taking English classes and will attend Mweka college in March 2026 to become mountain guides.
