National Parks

Tarangire National Park

In Tarangire National Park you will most likely see zebra, elephant, Maasai giraffe, wildebeest, buffalo and, in addition to many beautiful bird species, you will most likely also see predators such as lions, and with a bit of luck even cheetah and leopard. The national park is famous for its unrivaled landscapes of open plains with an abundance of fascinating ancient baobab trees and magnificent views of rolling savannah and acacia forests. The park is known as the home of the elephant as it has the highest density of elephants in the country, offering unique opportunities to see elephant families interacting.

Lake Manyara National Park

Lake Manyara National Park is known for its diverse habitats from swamps to shallow Lake Natron, forests, open grasslands, hot springs, to the mountains of the Great Rift Valley. The sanctuary encompasses much of Lake Manyara which is seasonally home to thousands of pink flamingos which can be seen alongside pelicans, cormorants and storks, offering visitors a breathtaking display of colour. Elephants, vervet monkeys, hippos, buffaloes, banded mongooses as well as various gazelles and antelopes can also be observed on the lake shores. This park has become famous above all for its lions, which like to stay in trees and thus offer spectacular photo opportunities.

Serengeti National Park

The Serengeti is one of the most iconic and breathtaking natural ecosystems on Earth — a vast expanse of African savanna teeming with wildlife, known for its Great Migration, diverse habitats, and timeless beauty. It’s located in northern Tanzania and extends into southwestern Kenya, where it continues as the Masai Mara. The Serengeti embodies the classic African wilderness — vast, wild, and timeless. Its combination of dramatic landscapes, enormous wildlife concentrations, and ancient migratory cycles make it one of the most ecologically important and awe-inspiring places on the planet.

Ngorongoro Crater

The Ngorongoro Crater is definitely one of the highlights of any trip to Tanzania and should not be missed. The northwestern extent of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area borders on the Serengeti. This sanctuary was founded in the late 1950s - in connection with an ecological study by the German zoologist Bernhard Grzimek ("Serengeti must not die"), to whom a monument is dedicated there. Since then, the Ngorongoro region has enabled the Maasai to coexist harmoniously with nature conservation, tourism and pastoralism. In 1979, this unique landscape with its rich wildlife was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The Ngorongoro Crater is a very special natural landmark, the largest crater in the world, which is home to around 25,000 animals year-round, including zebra, lion, elephant, wildebeest, rhino, gazelle, antelope, hyena and more. The diameter of the Ngorongoro crater, which was formed when the volcanic mountain collapsed, is about 21 km / 13 miles. The spectacular sheer side walls surrounding the crater floor are between 400-600 meters / 1300-2000 ft high. In the heart of the crater lies the shimmering white Lake Magadi, whose alkaline water is due to deposits of volcanic ash. Many waterfowl, including the pink flamingos, cavort in it and on its tributaries, especially during the rainy season.
